Steve Briody

Guitarist Composer ⁄ Arranger Author Professor

Steve Briody (DMA) has worked for several years in the NY area as a
guitarist, composer, arranger, and college professor.

Steve now resides in Columbia, SC, where he is on the
jazz/guitar faculty at the University of South Carolina.

He is also on guitar faculty at South Carolina State University and continues to teach
Jazz and Composition (remotely) to graduate students at Five Towns College
(where he was past music division chair).

In Columbia, he has played with the South Carolina Philharmonic, Dick Goodwin,
funk drum legend Rick Latham, Danny Boozer, Robert Gardiner, Mark Rapp, Mike Frost,
Roland Haynes, Jarvis Jett, Aiken Symphony, tour dates with the New York Bee Gees,
the Neil Diamond Experience, & several other groups in various genres.

Steve appears on a song on the upcoming album "Coastal Blue" by longtime Rippingtons keyboardist Bill Heller – a funk track featuring sax great Eric Marienthal, as well as Joel Rosenblatt and Dave Anderson.
Release date: Early 2026.
Steve's latest two student-level jazz ensemble pieces have recently been released by CL Barnhouse publishing.
Steve is part of the upcoming funk/jazz project “Latham-Briody-Heller-Lingle”. Release date: Early 2026.

Steve's song "Footsteps" appeared on the #1 album "Don't Follow the Crowd", by sax great Eric Alexander.
His commercial Jazz CD "Keep on Talkin'" received national airplay & Grammy consideration for Best Pop Instrumental Album.

Guitarist

Steve has worked with artists in a variety of musical styles, such as Jimmy Webb, Jeff Lorber, Charlie Daniels, Eric Marienthal, Carl Fisher, Mario Cruz, Steve Vai, Bill Heller, Dave Valentin, Bucky Pizzarelli, Bernard Purdie, Tommy Bowes, Run DMC, Randy Brecker, Greg Adams, Funk Filharmonik, Frank Bellucci, John Favicchia, Paula Atherton, Dom Famularo, the New York Bee Gees, and as the guitarist for the Long Island Music Hall of Fame All-Star Band for several years. He also worked in corporate bands, such as Hank Lane, as well as local NY area groups in many styles, cover bands of Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, James Taylor, Bee Gees, and several others.

College Professor

Steve has taught and developed numerous undergraduate and graduate music courses at Five Towns College. He re-designed its Pop Songwriting and Performance degree programs, and his guitar ensemble was twice invited to perform at the Jazz Education Network Conference. Steve' composition student Felipe Rondon was the first-place winner in the international ASCAP Paul McCartney Arranging Competition in 2021.
Steve was guest conductor of the 2018 All-County (Nassau) Jazz Ensemble.
